Tom Van de Velde

culture / heritage / participation

Tom studied audiovisual arts at the Erasmus University College Brussels and event management at the Thomas More University College. After working in the television and events sector, he found a more impactful job in his own region: helping to set up a pilot project for the Flemish leisure pass (UiTPAS). Via the world of cultural marketing and leisure participation, he then started working at the heritage organisation Herita to build more support for monuments and inspiring places. Finally, he gained experience as a regional cultural coordinator who supports local authorities.

The common thread between all the commitments that Tom makes is bringing people together to have the greatest possible impact in the local community and society. As a cultural coordinator, he not only helps to set up new collaborations between cultural actors, but also to formulate solutions for social challenges such as digital inclusion or the reception of newcomers who speak a different language. He also likes to guide (non-profit) organisations in drawing up strategic plans, collaborations or a volunteer policy. As a volunteer, he is active as chairman of the Flemish youth film organization JEF and in his local amateur theater.
