Montira is an environmental scientist with a background in marine ecosystem restoration, biodiversity, and a specialization in social-ecological resilience. She started her career in a corporate environment but soon realized that she wanted more out of life. After being introduced to diving, she decided to volunteer in marine conservation projects in Fiji. Eventually, she studied environmental sciences at the University of the South Pacific and KU Leuven. She has spent the last 15 years in the Southeast Asia and South Pacific regions where she started several successful community-based conservation projects in seagrass, mangrove and coral reef rehabilitation. Montira has extensive experience working with NGOs, government agencies and academic institutions. She uses Social-Ecological Systems theory and Resilience-based approaches to inform the design and management of projects related to community-centric natural resources, and ecosystems. With a focus on human and planetary health, she engages in participatory rural appraisal, empowers communities through experiential learning, and follows a systems thinking methodology for transdisciplinary project planning and evaluation.
