Sarie Van der Aa

ecology / nature-inclusive construction / participation

Sarie studied biology and first gained practical experience as a volunteer in various nature conservation projects in Australia, Costa Rica and Mali. There she helped to remove invasive exotic species, map genetic diversity and protect local fauna. Afterwards she went to work in Belgium on the project ‘Regional Landscape Brabantse Kouters’ and as a participation expert at the City of Antwerp. To give her passion for ecology and nature extra power, she finally went on to study ecological garden and landscape design.

Sarie considers herself a generalist who likes to combine practical ecological advice, participation and education to have a positive impact. She can count on a broad project experience: greening playgrounds, rolling out garden streets, strengthening green-blue networks (for, among others, the Department Omgeving and the Open Space Platform in Flanders), setting up environmental education walking trails, advising developers on climate adaptation (for EcoHuis Antwerp) and drawing up planting plans for various design agencies. In addition to her ecological passion, Sarie has also been active in a music production house for more than 15 years.
