Tijs studied nautical sciences at the Antwerp Maritime Academy and then safety sciences at the University of Antwerp. He is also certified as a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA). He first gained extensive experience in the transport sector and later as an emergency planning coordinator for local authorities. During COVID-19 he also gained in-depth crisis experience.




With a passion for and a broad view of safety, Tijs likes to think critically, but creatively in projects on different scales. During training courses, he transfers his knowledge and experience in a refreshing and interactive way to safety managers from various public and private organizations. Tijs also teaches terminal management at the AP Hogeschool Antwerp. On top of his regular responsibilities, he is active as a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver.
