Stijn Beeckman

participation / process management / urban policy

Stijn is a social innovator with a passion for urban development and affordable housing for everyone. He started his career in Rotterdam where he worked on citizen participation, social cohesion and city development. His interest in neighborhood research later led him to Mechelen and Brussels where he campaigned for social housing and positive coexistence in public spaces.

Through his role as a social worker, team coordinator and project manager, he has developed a thorough understanding of the various actors, stakeholders and processes that determine the playing field of complex projects. He enjoys co-creating and implementing socially innovative solutions together. For example, for SAAMO Brussels, he developed the Woonbox system, a construction system which repurposes vacant buildings into temporary, affordable homes.
