Wouter Rommens

ecology / water
Wouter studied biology and ecology at KU Leuven and subsequently obtained a PhD with his research into the ecological functioning and restoration of lakes and wetlands. As an ecologist, he has since built up extensive experience in the integrated management of wetlands and as a project manager and advisor in international projects. For example, he worked as a capacity building coordinator for UNESCO and UN Environment with a focus on marine environmental projects and the integrated management of coastal and marine areas.
Wouter enjoys working on water and biodiversity from the planning phase, both for governments and private actors, and on projects in different sectors such as infrastructure, energy and industry. He combines a thorough knowledge of both the regulatory framework and the scientific aspects of biodiversity. In addition, he always pays attention to the relationships between the project and the surrounding landscape and the landscape ecology within which the project functions.
