Maaike Dhondt

arboriculture / ecology
Maaike studied biology at Ghent University and subsequently specialized in global change ecology. After her studies, she started working as a part-time scientific researcher on a study into the development of dunes. She also collaborates on a project of the Flemish Agency for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO) to create sustainable dunes at the Belgian coast as a nature-based solution for coastal protection.
Maaike has a heart for nature and a special passion for trees, the largest and oldest living organisms on earth. That is why she followed an additional training as a professional tree surgeon. She continuously expands her knowledge of trees by participating in, among other things, ecological felling, planting, site improvements, tree safety reports, visual tree assessments and development site supervisions. With a scientific basis and a practical perspective, she likes to give advice to protect ecological values, especially in an urban environment.
