Tom D’Haeyer

Tom graduated as a bioengineer from KU Leuven, specializing in rural engineering and agriculture in tropical and subtropical regions. He later also studied Intercultural Management & International Communication (CIMIC) and an Executive MBA (Antwerp Management School). He spent much of his career at Antea Group, where he ultimately led international projects focused on integrated water management, ecosystem services, climate risk management, and rural development. Today, he supports NGOs, companies, and governments in water and climate projects.

Tom has over 20 years of experience and has frequently worked on international projects. He has coordinated EU research projects and projects for the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, and UNESCO, among others. He has worked in Haiti, Benin, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa, Papua New Guinea, Belgium, Germany, Egypt, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, and Timor-Leste. He has also been a frequent guest speaker or panelist, for example at the UN Water Conference, World Water Week, World Water Forum, and the High-level Conference on Drought. Finally, he is a Technical Expert Reviewer for the UNFCCC and an AGWA Fellow.
