Maria del Pilar Porras Villarreal

biomimicry / participation / permaculture
Maria obtained her degree in architecture with a focus on tropical climate from the Universidad de Costa Rica. She has more than 10 years of experience driving creative teams, including as a design manager for the global architecture and planning firm Gensler at their offices in Costa Rica and Australia. For the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction, she has helped to draft the new NextGen Accelerator program. In her pursuit of impactful projects, she also became a certified biomimicry practitioner and permaculture designer and obtained an accreditation from the Living Future Institute.
Maria is deeply passionate about shaping spaces that promote planetary well-being and designing experiences that contribute to the regenerative potential of all life. While she likes to keep things simple, she has a particular affinity for the complexity of projects that integrate biomimicry, permaculture and a whole-systems approach. By working as a facilitator in co-design workshops and organizing educational programs, she contributes to more inclusive communities that reconnect with nature.
